My new photography website.

Someone, somewhere stated that “Good is the enemy of great”. I’ve been fiddling with my new website for weeks trying to make peace between the two. A truce was called. Time to launch myself into my “second life”. Being an advertising art director for the last 25 years has been incredibly rewarding for me – but my real passion now is photography. When you are passionate about doing something,  you tend to do it well, and it shows in the work. Hopefully, my passion for photography will, in time, shine through. If you get a moment, I would appreciate you visiting the site and rummaging around. Please feel free to suggest ideas and thoughts about the site and how I could make it better. Good enough may be the enemy of great, but the will to get better is your best weapon in the fight to do great work.

Very pleased to have headed up this week’s selection of ‘Painterly Mobile Art Monday No. 22’ on Geri Centonze’s site with my Battle of Waterloo image. Nice selection of work and shows how versatile and creative mobile photographers can be with a variety of textural photo apps. Toy Soldiers Series ©Sean Hayes (2013)

Every year, just down the road from where I live in Belgium, grown men and women dress up and play soldiers in a field outside the town of Waterloo. The Battle of Waterloo reenactment is an annual event that attracts thousands of participants and observers from France, Belgium, The Netherlands, Great Britain, Germany, Poland and Russia. It’s quite a sight. A photographer’s paradise in fact. The first panoramic photograph (posted below) looks orchestrated and art directed – but it isn’t. I couldn’t believe my good fortune when I spotted this group of off-duty warriors just sitting in their tent awaiting orders. It looked exactly like an 19th century military painting. Click.
